A blighted area of downtown Dallas is being transformed -- inch by dogged inch -- into an upscale urban neighborhood by Dallas-based Hillwood Development.
"Hillwood recently got under way on the second phase of its long-planned Victory, a sprawling mixed-use redevelopment project on a 73-acre brownfield site in a corner of Dallas' Uptown district. The company, which has also been developing the huge industrial and office space Alliance project outside Dallas, broke ground in July 2004 on a 251-room W Hotel, topped by 94 luxury residences...
The first two phases represent about 20% of the total project at build-out, according to Hillwood spokesperson John Wise. The first phase was completed in 2001, and included $100 million of site clean up and preparation work and construction of the $420-million American Airlines Center."
