If HUD approves a loan, East Lansing will build six townhouse condominiums at the north end of the street and 12 condominium flats in two- and three-story buildings at the south end.

In between would be 21 single-family homes. Housing unit prices would range from $120,000 to $250,000, and they would have deed restrictions prohibiting them from being used as rental units.

Thirty percent of the homes would be available to people who qualify for home-buying assistance through East Lansing Housing and Neighborhood Services.

The site was chosen because of its proximity to schools, downtown and Michigan State University.
