Wal-Mart's Mixed Use Test In Atlanta

The retail giant is experimenting with alternative development approach. In Atlanta, it will be part of a mixed-use development.

"...As Wal-Mart saturates the suburbs and seeks new doors into Atlanta's urban market, its strategy is changing. Land prices are high, and large plots are not as available. Inside I-285, it is redeveloping sites abandoned by others...

The city stores will show some design changes, including 'the most urban Wal-Mart in the country,' at I-75 and Howell Mill Road. This store will set a standard as the company begins making urban inroads nationwide, according to the head of Wal-Mart's real estate division...

It is planned as part of a mixed-use development, including a second story of retail shops, apartments, streetscaping and decked, hidden parking."
