$34.4 Million HUD Grant for Oakland

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo awarded a$34.4 million grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Oakland, CA, that will be used to provide housing for 329 families and to demolish 178 deteriorated public housing apartments.

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo awarded a$34.4 million grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Oakland that will be used to provide housingfor 329 families and to demolish 178 deteriorated public housing apartments.In Oakland, the HOPE VI grant will be used to revitalize the Coliseum Gardens public housingdevelopment in East Oakland. Upon completion, the grant from HUD will create 178 public housingunits, 66 tax-credit rental units and 85 affordable homeownership units. The HUD grant will also be used create a new part and community to invest into the Coliseum BARTStation. A new rail connection to Oakland International Airport is planned and financial assistance tostreets, parks and community facilities.
