"By the look of the ninth Venice Architecture Biennale, which opened on Sunday, the race to scrape the sky with ever-higher buildings is all but irrelevant to the new generation of architects coming into their own.
In place of thrusting tectonic giants, the show features sloping, sprawling, cloudlike and bent forms that hug, swell and merge with the landscape. Complex engineering feats and the three-dimensional imprint of the computer grid are beginning to be felt, as projects long confined to the groves of academic speculation start to go up in the real world."
