"Fainstein said she is especially supportive of Wigley's plan to integrate the different disciplines, which include urban design, architecture, urban planning, real estate... After a year as interim dean and just a few months in his permanant position, Mark Wigley has somewhat ambitious goals for the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation... Susan Fainstein, acting chair of the urban planning program, said that Columbia originally offered the position to Zaha Hadid, a world-famous architect, but the contract fell through. At that point, Wigley, who was also a candidate, was selected as dean."
