Canadians Using Transit In Record Numbers

A new report releassed by the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) reveals that Canadian public transit services provided 1.553 billion trips nationally in 2003 -- 22 million more than in 2002.

In the light of this increase, CUTA stresses that transit services are being stretched to their limit, as government funding for transit has dropped over the same period. Instead, CUTA states transit services are badly in need of the new federal funding promised by the recently elected Prime Minister Paul Martin.
