"The first worldwide survey of amphibians shows that one in every three species of frogs, toads and salamanders is in danger of extinction, many of them likely victims of an infectious fungus possibly caused by drought or global warming...amphibians are under unprecedented assault, experiencing tens of thousands of years' worth of population declines in just a century, scientists said...Such declines may portend trouble for people and other species, since amphibians usually are the first creatures to suffer from environmental ills."
