LAUSD owns 7.6 acres of land in the Santa Monica Mountains near Pacific Palisades. Appraised at $14 million, it is now for sale. Some local residents want to pool their money to buy it. They do not want it developed.

LAUSD has been renting a parcel of land it owns in Sullivan canyon to a private equestrian club for 22 years at a financial loss. LAUSD originally purchased the land in 1961 for school expansion on the westside. Local residents have fought the sale of the land; but LAUSD expects to sell within six months for up to $27 million.
