The University of New Orleans has increased scholarships to lure new urban planning students from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas.
"The scholarships will be offered to students considering where to enroll next fall, and will mesh with a new 'Interstate 10 corridor' strategy to attract Gulf Coast students who might want to live in New Orleans. UNO draws 80 percent of its students from the New Orleans area, and traditionally has devoted little effort to pitches in other states... About 10 percent of UNO students come from out of state; Ryan said he wants to raise that to 25 percent."
