National Policy Needed To Help Cities Reinvent Themselves

Urban areas have been devastated by conscious and deliberate policies of government - now a reverse policy set is needed.

According to Richard D. Baron, 2004 laureate of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, a national response is needed to help America’s “weak market cities” reinvent themselves in the knowledge-based, increasingly globalized economy. A robust national urban agenda will "create new jobs, improve schools, redevelop vacant land and buildings, upgrade failing transportation systems and restore markets that once existed with new, more interesting communities to respond to the demands of a new generation of consumers.”
