Neighborhoods like the one described in this article are disappearing fast in Washington. This story looks at the residents of this vibrant, pre-gentrified crossroads of cultures, a neighborhood that may have its problems in the eyes of a planner--both social and aesthetic--but has a character and sheer excitement that would surely be lost as the YPs move closer and closer and the property values go up and up."If one were to stand there in Big Ben every day for a week, in the corner quietly, looking, this is what one might learn: There are two kinds of people in this room -- those who seek and those who have what is sought. Each awaits the neighborhood to be gentrified around a new Metro stop. Each awaits the newcomers to transform this place into their likeness."
