San Pedro is bucking for a bit more respect these days and has plans for its own promenade.
John Papadakis, restaurant owner and San Pedro native son is proposing something like San Franciscos Fishermans Wharf in Los Angeles' San Pedro. The first step in this revival, Papadakis says, is "a pedestrian-oriented walkway and bicycle path along the four- to five-mile San Pedro waterfront." There have been patchwork efforts for 20 years, some by the citys Community Redevelopment Agency, some by the Harbor Department and other agencies. The promenade would help connect these previous efforts and encourage many to walk three blocks from the shore to the little districts downtown.
