Melbourne Docklands was recognised as one of the most significant urbanredevelopment projects in Australia on as VicUrban were presented with the 2004 Australia Award for Urban Design at a ceremony held in Melbourne.

"Docklands has emerged as a global place with important local roots and one of Australia's fastest moving urban redevelopment initiatives" said Peter Droege, Chair of the PIA Urban Design Chapter, and Award jury member.VicUrban developed an innovative strategy for designed development that ensures the creation of an urban area and the integration of a new community.

The redevelopment of the Melbourne docklands district is now recognised as the most innovative and exemplary urban design project for 2004.
