The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will select the host city for the 2012 Olympic Games on July 6, 2005 in Singapore. Nine candidates applied and five made the shortlist.

Finalist cities competing to be the host city had until November 15 to submit detailed "bid books" which outline the cities' plans for hosting the Olympics for review by the IOC, including confirming planned Olympic venues.

In New York, for example, "The Hudson Yards Redevelopment Plan for Manhattan's West Side, crucial to New York's bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, cleared another hurdle this week in its ongoing public approval process. By a vote of 10 to one the City Planning Commission of New York City approved the rezoning resolution for the Hudson Yards Plan, the fifth step of the ten-step public review and approval process that is required before construction of the project can begin."
