A report issued by the Surface Transportation Policy Project ranked Boston the safest city in the nation for walkers among 50 metropolitan areas with more than 1 million residents. The Boston area, the report said, grew slightly less dangerous over the past decade with a 3.8 percent improvement in pedestrian safety.
