Smart Growth policies designed to counter urban growth, actually threaten prosperity, increase housing costs, and lead to more traffic congestion and air pollution according to a new study Myths about Urban Growth and the Toronto Greenbelt, published by The Fraser Institute.
The geographical growth of urban areas has become a heated issue across Canada but particularly in Ontario, where the McGuinty government has designated a massive 7,000 square km greenbelt, and appointed a Greenbelt Task Force to develop other policies intended to slow or stop urban growth around Ontarios 'Golden Horseshoe'.
