Subway expansion is the first beyond the system's original boundaries.

In a subliminal nod to Washington's political culture, the city's subway system has balanced the opening of a new station on the Red line last month with new stations on the Blue line. The two new stations at Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center are scheduled to open on Saturday and will serve suburban Prince George's County, Maryland, a region struggling to attract new residents and jobs. County officials hope that transit access will spark economic growth. County Council Chairman Samuel Dean thinks that "Metro tends to attract the type of employment base that allows people to work in Prince George's County, close to home." The project is the last planned expansion for Metro. "There's going to be a big lag here," said Metro Chief Executive Richard A. White about future station and line construction plans. The two stations are conveniently located close to a large retail center and FedEx field, home of the ever-popular Washington Redskins.
