"Many small beachside motels are already gone, and only a few of what used to be dozens locally may remain in a decade...Some mom-and-pop motel owners along the Space Coast are receiving unsolicited and very tempting offers on their properties, and can't be faulted for selling while the selling's good to move on or finance a comfortable retirement.

It's a bittersweet turn of events, though, for those of us who once checked into the affordable, idiosyncratic little inns just steps away from the surf."
