'Pod thinking' results in planning that fails to look beyond the small community and encourages NIMBYism, BANANAs, and NIMTOOs.
Los Angeles must recognize Downtown as a growth engine, according to a new report from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), "Recapturing the Dream: A Winning Strategy for the L.A. Region."
...Pod Thinking causes "local entities, be they governments, businesses or planning groups, to fail (or in many cases refuse) to look beyond their small communities. It results in NIMBYism (not in my backyard), BANANAs (build absolutely nothing near anybody) and on the political side, NIMTOOs (not in my term of office).
'Policy makers have to understand Arizona, Nevada, China and India, [Jack Kyser of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation] observed, touting places where local businesses can escape to if they leave Los Angeles. 'Those are four key words that they need to understand.' "
