In the inaugural Cradle-to-Cradle Home Design Competition, students answer the question, "How can you create sustainable, affordable urban housing?"
Prompted by the competitions call for affordable, sustainable urban housing, as well as the fact that the winning designs would be built in the citys neighborhoods, dozens of universities initiated green-building studios to prepare students for the contest. After all, the competition offered a hands-on project rare in most academic studios: a chance to re-imagine the American house through the lens of ecological design...Students coupled their material inquiries with research on solar energy and living technologies.
