A backlog in getting development permits from the US Army Corps of Engineers is delaying development projects such as new housing, shopping centers, and roads.
"New housing developments, shopping centers, roads, docks and even The Scripps Research Institute are facing an extra hurdle these days a months-long delay in getting development permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.The corps says development projects throughout Florida are suffering from the backlog, which it blames on a shortage of employees to deal with the state's complex environmental issues in an exploding market for new houses."
