The only way to identify and hopefully preserve the architectural gems in a vast, overlooked neighborhood is to catalog every single building in it.
San Francisco's Sunset District is usually thought of as a vast desert of stucco, but many buildings of historic significance are hidden within it. Being hidden leaves them vulnerable, so a volunteer group of architects, planners is initiating a historic review that will take in every single building in the area. The idea is that if the historic buildings are scattered enough thorough this large neighborhood to be out of the public view, the best way to ensure their survival and prevent development battles before they happen is to count them all.
