Richard Florida says the US is "shooting itself in the foot" when it comes to attracting global talent.
"For decades, the US was the main beneficiary of the creative economy...but according to Prof. Florida, over the past four years the American government's focus has shifted back to older sectors of the economy, an example of what Florida calls a "tectonic change in the country's political-economic demographics," which has left economically stale or declining states wielding more political power than the creative ones. That change...has put the US at a competitive disadvantage."
