Virginia's largest beach resort is skeptical of proposed transit system.
On the table is a $30 million plan to link the Virginia Beach convention center with the the boardwalk, beaches, and other area tourist destinations by bus rapid transit. The system will replace the existing trollies that currently "provide a low-key way of traversing the area for hundreds of thousands of riders a year." City officials have still have unanswered questions such as how much the system will cost annually to operate, how traffic patterns will be affected by BRT, what the estimated ridership will be, and how much funding the federal government will contribute. Another complication is coordinating Virginia Beach's BRT system with other planned transit systems in the Hampton Roads region, the largest metropolitan area in the state.
