The LA Downtown News interviews the 94-year old legendary architectural photographer about his modest beginnings in Los Angeles.
"Shulman, who will be honored this week in Downtown at the Central City Association's Treasures of Los Angeles awards, began his career in the mid-1930s, when he was hired by Richard Neutra to take pictures of the famed architect's projects. Since then, he has become one of the world's preeminent architectural photographers. Though best known as a chronicler of American modernism, Shulman has photographed works from a pantheon of architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Raphael Soriano, Rudolph Schindler, Charles and Ray Eames, Gregory Ain, Paul Williams and Frank Gehry. But amid the landmarks, there were also gas stations, space age Googie diners, apartment buildings and babies."
