A $100 tax on all new vehicles is at the center of major plans to change the face of rapid transit throughout all of South Florida.
It's going to take a lot of money to create the sort of rapid transit hubs that many in Florida say will revolutionize traffic flow and transportation. But most agree the money needs to be spent. "According to the Texas Transportation Institute, South Florida motorists spend an average of 52 hours a year stuck in traffic, at an economic cost of about $2.6 billion. It will only get worse as the region's population grows by 50 percent, to about 7.5 million, by 2030."
