Santa Fe Might Raise Parking Rates

An advisory panel narrowly approved a measure that would increase downtown parking to pay for a new parking structure.

"A proposal to raise parking rates and fines an average of 6.4 percent on July 1 is headed to City Council committees without a recommendation from the city's Parking Advisory Committee.

Parking Director Vincent Lopez said higher parking fees are needed help repay bonds to be floated for a planned $7 million underground parking structure in the city-owned rail yard, where a major redevelopment project is planned."
