New York City's bid for the 2012 Olympics promises what its organizers say would be "the largest single investment" in parks and recreational facilities in the city's history and a legacy of other public works, including permanent housing in an Olympic Village in western Queens and transportation improvements in the metropolitan area, including the extension westward of the No. 7 subway line.
