As gas prices remain high and fuel efficient autos such as Honda's Insight & Toyota's Prius become more popular as a result, Orgegon lawmakers, worried about losing revenue from gasoline tax, are looking into taxing hybrid auto owners to make up for the shortfall.

he state is looking to influence behavior in addition to raising revenue by implementing a "vehicle mileage tax." Under a VMT a motorist would pay a tax for each mile driven...This is bad news not just for enviro-friendly motorists but for anyone who cares about privacy and transparence in government.
