Georgia's Zoning Codes Reflect New Maturity

"The Residential Senior Living Zone, passed by the County Commission in January, is the first of its kind in Georgia. It gives developers flexibility to build more units on fewer acres than was previously allowed, but only for residents who are 55 or older.

In addition, the senior developments must be built on or near arterial roads, and the units must include amenities such as wider doorways, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, no-step entrances and broad sidewalks. Two developments have already been approved, although one is the subject of a pending lawsuit."
