The effect of Silicon Valley's wealth is being felt all over Northern California, especially in traditional getaway spots such as Carmel and its surroundings, the Lake Tahoe area and Truckee, as well as in the rural areas of Sonoma County. City officials are reluctant to say anything disparaging about the gilded influx, which often means so much new tax revenue that towns struggle with spending options.
