Florida officials say the neotraditional resort is one of the safest places on the Gulf of Mexico.

After Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Hurricane Dennis in 2005, the neotraditional resort town of Seaside is proving to be a model of durable design. Construction standards, lot layout and street pattern combine to form a hurricane-resistant community, while dozens of homes, hotels and other businesses only a few miles to the west are demolished.
