SUVs Down, But Not Out

Despite a five-month downward trend in SUV sales, experts warn that it's too soon to say SUVs are becoming extinct.

"Tom Libby, senior director of industry analysis for J.D. Power and Associates, points out that after five months of decline, June sales of full-sized SUVs rebounded, in large part due to incentives offered by GM. Libby thinks gas prices will have to rise well above $3 a gallon and stay at that price for a long time before there would be a permanent change in car-buying habits."
