"A stalemate over the preservation of a patch of redbud trees at Cornell University ended yesterday after a group of student protesters reached an agreement that allows the university to build a parking lot in exchange for a pledge to pursue other environmental initiatives.""In exchange for the protesters' agreement to leave the woods, the university promised to consider developing programs to help conserve natural resources at the university. Many of the initiatives will examine how to keep parking and cars to a minimum on campus.""Those protesters who had decided to stay jeered at and heckled the president. 'No compromise in the name of Earth,' shouted one."
