The Growth Of Housing In Industrial Districts

As real estate prices skyrocket, housing is appearing in fading industrial enclaves across the country. The two uses are not always the best fit.

"...Similar transformations are happening in fading industrial enclaves across the country, and Downtown Los Angeles is no exception. While the onslaught of condominium and apartment buildings has hit most of the Central City over the last few years, only now is the trend beginning to play out in the Industrial District, just east of Alameda.

...Yet it's not necessarily an easy fit in Downtown. While builders in the Historic Core and South Park have been welcomed with open arms and city incentives aimed at spurring housing, the gritty enclave that includes the Industrial and Arts districts is still zoned for industrial use."
