While some say this is actually a good thing for low-income communities, the evidence remains that poor people struggle to find benefits from the process. This article examines how residents in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York are battling displacement. Some residents count on traditional government aid such as rent subsidies to stay in their homes, but others are forced to ask friends and family to take them in or to live in substandard housing.
