With high-speed internet access becoming a necessity, rural Arizona lawmakers are searching for ways to bring broadband to rural towns.
"Tired of waiting for big telecommunications companies to bring broadband access to them, small communities throughout the state are going after it themselves... More than 850 rural communities across the nation have established their own municipal high-speed systems.
Mesquite, Nev., is considering offering high-speed access as a municipal utility, City Manager Bryan Montgomery said. He said the local carrier hasn't shown much interest in offering access to its 18,000 residents."
