With more than half of the city still underwater, smart-growth experts say now's an ideal time to rethink the entire infrastructure of the city.
"After a smart-growth breakfast Tuesday morning at Faulkner University, a man regarded by his peers as one of the top city planners in America spoke about rebuilding the devastated region.
'I think we have some opportunities to rebuild these communities in a way that will be a little more sustainable -- hopefully build them in some locations that are not as susceptible to damage from the coast, and build them in a way that will create mixed-use and mixed income neighborhoods that will be sustainable over the long haul,' [Rick Bernhardt, executive director of Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Planning Department] said."
