The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission has published its comprehensive land-use guide, the 2040 Regional Framework Plan, to facilitate collaboration at the local and regional levels.
"For decades, big-picture planners in the Chicago area have grappled with ways to make local movers and shakers take to heart their recommendations about sprawl, clogged highways and uncontrolled development . . . On Wednesday, the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission hopes to send one of the clearest messages yet when it unveils its first comprehensive plan in nearly 30 years--a guidebook the commission hopes will direct new growth while redeveloping existing urban areas."
"The commission, the official planning agency for the six-county area, hopes that its 2040 Regional Framework Plan, though only advisory, will give local elected officials and planners an important tool to make land-use decisions . . . The commission also plans an aggressive campaign to try and ensure the document 'will be a real hit and not just sit on a shelf,' NIPC commissioner and Green Oaks Mayor Tom Adams said."
The plan is being published as a book-length version, a shorter popular summary, and a multimedia CD.
