Fifty years ago today, the Buffalo Skyway opened to traffic...[it] was envisioned as a landmark that would polish Buffalo's image as the Queen City of the Great Lakes.... These days the Skyway is more reviled than revered... The push to replace it with a tunnel or lift bridge also reflects perceptions that its problems include snow-forced closings, multiple-vehicle accidents and traffic jams."
