"The massive Beltline proposal received a tremendous push Monday when the Atlanta City Council voted to create a special tax district to raise nearly $2 billion to pay for parks, trails and transit that would be included in the much-heralded redevelopment plan.

...Advocates of the Beltline say the changes that are to unfold over the next 25 years could be as significant in Atlanta's history as the arrival of professional sports teams, the growth of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport into one of the world's busiest and the Olympic Games that sparked interest in metro Atlanta's urban core."
