Also known as the Iroquois, the tribe worked with a non-profit and college professors to make the purchase after centuries of effort.
"...in 1779, George Washington's Sullivan-Clinton Campaign eliminated Native American villages across upstate New York. Since then, the Cayugas (also known as Haudenosaunees or Iroquois) have been trying to reclaim their land through various means. All their attempts failed until late 2005. In December, the Cayuga Nation announced its purchase of a 70-acre farm in Cayuga County from the non-profit group SHARE (Strengthening Haudenosaunee-American Relations through Education)."
