Despite anecdotal evidence to the contrary, the core areas of the nation's major metropolitan areas are experiencing major net domestic migration losses, according to Wendell Cox.
"To read The New York Times, one would get the impression that suburbanites, especially those who have recently moved from the City, are now moving back in droves. That recent article has begun to produce the inevitable 'copycat' articles, the most recent (shown below) of which appeared in Sunday’s Baltimore Sun. More will doubtless follow. What they will all probably fail to do is to put their stories in any context that reflects overall trends.
Despite the spate of anecdotes, the population trend data has far from turned around.
Using the Census Bureau's 2000-2004 county data, Demographia has produced a report summarizing net internal (domestic) migration for all metropolitan areas in the nation."
