Planners and transit advocates consider rail to alleviate traffic congestion and promote development in Greater Cincinnati.
"Plans are afoot downtown, in Cincinnati's eastern and western suburbs and in Northern Kentucky for passenger rail along existing rail lines or on new streetcar tracks as a means to connect more people to jobs, relieve traffic congestion and promote development along the lines.
In addition to the loop through the three downtown areas, planners are exploring the feasibility of a street car route through Uptown - the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Zoo, several hospitals and surrounding neighborhoods - and passenger rail to eastern suburbs.
None of the plans has local or federal money in hand to put steel in the ground, but transportation planners and mass transit advocates are studying ways to address congestion problems that have grown worse as the tri-state's population climbs and its suburbs spread farther from the urban core."
