Maryland Government Considers Eminent Domain Bills

43 bills have hit the legislature, in attempts to limit government power.

"State legislators began wading through a slew of bills yesterday that hit Maryland -- and the rest of the nation -- in the aftermath of a Supreme Court ruling last year affirming the powers of eminent domain.

Delegates and senators have drafted 43 bills that seek to limit government's use of condemnation of property. A House committee heard testimony yesterday on 28 of them -- the most drastic of which would change the state constitution to prohibit seizing property for economic development."
