Toronto Globe compares Toronto with several US cities, and reports why revitalization efforts within US cities have been so successful.
A major urban transformation is under way in Toronto, fuelled by the extraordinarily strong U.S. economy and, more important, made possible by large-scale, focused reinvestment strategies. The editorial evaluates 14 major U.S. cities to catalog how the cities invested in the 1990s. Each has spent, on average, about $263-million a year for the past decade on attractions, infrastructure, amenities and development assistance in their downtowns and central waterfronts. US cities mentioned include New York, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland.
