"The Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority's contest gave a new twist to design competitions, which are normally restricted to memorials and large civic projects. It also put a fresh spin on the search for solutions to an old problem in Aspen. There's a huge need for affordable housing - the last 17 affordable units built in this high-dollar town had 400 hopeful owners and renters. There also is often not-in-myback-yard opposition to affordable projects, partly because many of them look low-budget."
