The New York Thruway Authority will be offering a new "Green Pass" discount plan for motorists who use E-ZPass and drive fuel efficient vehicles, starting this spring.
The New York Thruway Authority will offer a 10% discount off tolls for E-Zpass users who drive vehicles that get 45 mpg or higher and meet stringent emissions standards.
Vehicles enrolled in this program will get special green-colored E-Zpass transponders. "The Thruway Authority is the first toll-collecting agency in the country to offer such price breaks for customers who use hybrid vehicles, said Bill Rinaldi, acting director of operations for the authority."
Gov. Pataki predicted that the Thruway's Green Pass program "will increase the use of low-emission, energy-efficient vehicles on our state's roadways and help reduce our dependence on foreign fossil fuels, minimize the impact of high fuel prices and lower auto emissions for a healthier New York."
