The Chicago metropolitan area is the third largest in the United States. Bounded by Wisconsin on the north, Lake Michigan and Indiana on the east, and the Grand Prairie of Illinois on the south and west, Chicago and its central county, Cook, are ringed by five "collar" counties: DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will. The region is home to almost 8 million residents and has more than 4 million jobs; the city of Chicago itself has 2.8 million residents and 1.4 million jobs.
